I begin learning about Jesus over 40 years ago. I am a fifth generation Christian and stem from a long line of ministers and missionaries. I grew up heavily involved in the church. But it took for me to form a relationship with Christ for myself to truly understand his full effectiveness. As a teenager I was trained as a classical ballet dancer with the Rochester city ballet and moved to New York City after graduation to pursue my dream. In New York City I trained with the Alvin Ailey American dance theater and with implementing highly intensive career goals I had little time to concentrate on God. I enjoyed a short professional career and then the unexpected happened. I got sick. Really sick. To the point that I felt my future was threatened. I was afraid and there wasn’t much that the doctors or my prayer warrior (my Mom) could do to help me. When I realized God was all I had, I realized God was all I needed. It took a few more years of searching, falling short and searching again before I was stopped dead in my tracks and confronted with the immediate need to make a choice. I decided to surrender. I yearned to explore the relationship with God for myself, not based on anyone else’s idea of what that relationship should be. This was 10 years ago. I’ve never looked back. Since then I’ve worked as senior leadership for a Church in Norfolk Virginia speaking, counseling, creating curriculum and ministering to many. Along the way I earned my master’s degree and I’m currently a second year PhD student working on a PhD in counseling and psychological services with a concentration in addiction from Regent University.
