Change comes naturally to Alana. An outgoing soul who moved around a lot as a child, she learned to adapt to her environments. Having lost her mother to violence when she was only 17, Alana learned early how to develop resilience. Alana took that strength to work with her when she graduated from college with an engineering degree. Adapting to the demands of the oilfield, she rose to the ranks of program manager and led change initiatives for a global oilfield services company. Alana is a certified project management professional (PMP) and leverages her expertise in project and change management to help individuals and organizations excel—even in the face of adversity.
Alana's highly acclaimed third book, What's Your Catalyst? The Power of Managed Change: How Purpose and Passion Can Drive Strategic Life Change, gives readers a dose of inspiration and a serving of actionable strategies to help them lead change in their personal and professional lives. She guides readers to go beyond her story, in her first two books, AND into their own. She leads them to explore their passions, talents, and paths to becoming more effective leaders at work and at home.
She is an engaging and dynamic keynote speaker, appealing to audiences of various types and sizes. Alana makes a lasting impact at conferences, corporations, retreats, schools and churches, delivering high-energy, principle-based content. She changes hearts and minds, inspiring leaders to overcome adversity, build resilience, and convey empathy. Her zeal for life comes through each time she takes the stage.
With over 20 years of corporate and community leadership, Alana helps individuals and organizations accomplish their goals by utilizing sharp analysis, strategic planning, and interpersonal skills development. She promotes behavior styles and conflict resolution techniques to improve team dynamics and performance. Alana provides her clients with a combination of critical thinking and compassionate leadership, which she labels "Leading Change the Ms. Engineer Way". Her clients have included Fortune 500 companies, small technology companies, churches, and non-profits. Her adaptability makes her an asset across the professional spectrum.
Before establishing her consultancy in 2006, Alana enjoyed a colorful career with Schlumberger advancing from a Field Engineer to a Program Manager. In her tenure with the oilfield services giant, she not only managed multiple technology implementations, she also learned to drive an 18-wheeler! Throughout her career, Alana has led diverse teams and delivered high-impact workshops all over the world. Alana holds a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University and has numerous accomplishments in talent development.
Together with her husband, she has raised four handsome boys as part of a beautiful blended family. As a passionate ministry leader and teacher, Alana continues to pour God's love into the children and youth she encounters. As an involved mother and coach, she offers encouragement and advice to parents of children of all ages. Her faith, perseverance, and desire to encourage others inspire her speaking and writing. She is the author of Love is a Catalyst, where she shares her family’s faith during their trials and triumphs over cancer; and Love is a Catalyst: The Pain Behind the Purpose, her inspiring memoir of overcoming adversity and growing in her faith. Through examples and exercises in her newest book, What's Your Catalyst, you will be taken on a journey to discover your passions, talents, and path to being a more effective leader at work and at home.
Alana is a member of the National Speakers Association (NSA), Project Management Institute (PMI), Toastmasters International, and the Association for Talent Development (ATD Houston). And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love. Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Christ who loved us. (Rom. 8:37) Alana was an accomplished professional, wife, and mother. But despite seeming to have it all together, she still struggled with the pain and brokenness from her childhood: just a few months before her high school graduation, Alana’s mother was murdered. Despite her agony, she persevered through college, storing up her pain in her closet. When the grief became too much to bear, she would retreat to her closet to cry. This method of self-preservation carried her through the rigor of an engineering...
