Gideon was a man greatly disillusioned by his people's condition. He was discouraged and defeated. He was confused by the stories of God's great exploits in the past and why they had apparently ceased.
Had God abandoned them?
Could the situation be turned around?
Is victory possible?
What steps did Gideon need to take to cooperate with God?
What can we do to turn our churches and country around when everything is in decay?
