Below are some quick mental tips from four of our featured speakers to get you going in the right direction!

Mindset Precedes Lifestyle

Desiring to live a healthy lifestyle is great, but the bigger issue is getting yourself to do it. Becoming “transformed by the renewing of your mind” is key.  How? Take 4 simple, yet essential steps to address the underlying dominant thoughts that are keeping you stuck:

1) Identify the lies you believe.
2) Take your negative thoughts captive (disempower them).
3) Replace the lies with “truth talk” – statements you memorize.
4) Repeat daily for at least 9-12 months.

Simultaneously, start moving more while decreasing empty calories from your diet. Nourish your body well and your health will follow! Lasting lifestyle victory starts in the mind.

Start the Day Right

I love lists! I am the self-proclaimed "List Queen"; welcome to my kingdom. I have a list for everything from the obvious like groceries to buy, to specific chores for each day of the week. Even my prayer cards are diverse lists. But there is one simple thing at the top of the list that remains consistent to help me find success each day: Put your shoes on! Spiritually of course, as spoken of in Ephesians 6:15, but also literally. Put your shoes on. I feel ready to tackle whatever the day holds when I'm steady and ready to run.

Slow & Steady Wins the Race

Did you know what you eat can affect your mental well-being? A healthy diet can reduce depression and anxiety. You might think that adapting to a healthy eating plan is too difficult, and if you dive in headfirst, it just might be. But, if you start slowly, adapting a healthy diet can grow overtime. Find one unhealthy item that you feel you could give up fairly easily. How about replacing one can of soda a day with a carbonated water? After a month, take a look at another healthy change you could make. Soon you will be a healthy eating rockstar!

Give Your Brain a Boost

I’ve boosted my mental clarity through intermittent fasting. I fast for 14 to 16 hours from dinner until brunch the next morning. Your brain loves to burn ketones instead of glucose, and it takes at least 12 hours before your body depletes its stored glucose. So if you have a big writing project and need some extra brain power, try intermittent fasting. Be sure to drink plenty of water and black coffee or tea so you won’t interrupt your fast. I’ve gotten two bonuses from short-term fasting: mental clarity and fat loss.
