More About Deborah Peek

Deborah Avans Peek- BIOSinger/Songwriter Deborah Avans Peek was born in a small town on the outskirts of Chicago, and was adopted at the age of two by a couple from Alabama. When Deborah was four the family moved to Alabama and that's where she was raised. When Deborah was old enough to walk, she would sing songs from TV commercials. She would sing "I say goodbye, you say hello" by the Beatles, and has been singing ever since.Growing up singing in church, Deborah gives credit for her ability to sing and natural talent to God. She sang in church and school functions and was a member of a gospel quartet at the early age of 15.In 2000, Deborah recorded a CD titled "Don't Come Cryin To Me" and move to Nashville. She filmed several music videos in which one of her videos was filmed on Chattanooga's Southern Belle river boat. There were some major labels that were interested in offering a recording contract. She became a regular backstage at the Opry and met a lot of friends in the business. Deborah also recorded vocal demos and background vocals for artist in Nashville. She performed at the Stardust Theater in Nashville as Faith Hill and Tammy Wynette tributes. That is where she met the members of the band she toured with for six years throughout Tennessee. In 2008 Deborah recorded a gospel cd titled “Living In The Rain”, which received much radio play. She had to put travel and ministry on hold when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013. After undergoing a double mastectomy, 28 radiation treatments,12 rounds of chemotherapy, in which she lost all of her hair, she managed to keep working a full time job and is now cancer free. Deborah thanks God everyday for watching over and healing her. She has made a full recovery and is ready to get back to doing what she loves to do, which is sharing God's word through songs. "I just want to be out there with the people who have hurt and struggles; to encourage them and let them know "you" CAN be strong." God will never leave you, even when you think he's so far away, he's not, and he will always rescue you when HE decides it's time", she states. " Going through divorce, abuse, abandonment, homeless and brokenness in the past and then cancer, "I know what it's like to struggle, BUT GOD is Good"!Deborah , her husband and two sons are members of Agape Baptist Church in Scottsboro, Alabama. TESTIMONY:

In September of 2013, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had mammograms and ultrasounds for several years but nothing showed up. I had been wanting to have a breast reduction done due to neck and back pain, but I knew I couldn't afford it. I had insurance so I thought I would go to the doctor and see if my insurance would pay for it. I called for an appointment but it was going to be six months before I could get in to see a doctor. I went to see the doctor and he said the insurance would pay for everything. He was so backed up though, and it would be another six months before I could have surgery. We went ahead and set a date for surgery. So a whole year had went by before I had surgery. The surgery went well, and I was home healing, and the doctor called me and told me the pathologist had found cancer in my right breast tissue. I was in shock for a few minutes, and then I felt a calm come over me. I knew God had this and everything was going to be okay. I knew that God had healed me as a child and he would take care of me now.

The amazing thing is, the doctor told me that the pathologist told him that he had checked the right side tissue and found nothing. So he checked the left side and found nothing. The pathologist said "something told him to re-check the right side again". So he did, and found small "pea" size cancer cells. What if he hadn't checked it again? What if he hadn't listened to that small "voice"? That was a GOD thing!

Three weeks after my reduction, I had to go back in and have a double mastectomy. The pathologist checked the tissue and found two more, two inch tumors of cancer. The cancer had already spread to the lympth nodes. They removed four lympth nodes also. If I hadn't went in for a reduction.......If they hadn't checked a second time.....If they hadn't caught it early.........God knew!!!  God has a plan. We just have to listen to that prompting spirit that tells us to listen to him and obey.

God had put it on my heart and mind several years before that to get a breast reduction. It was something that I hadn't thought of before. It just entered my mind and stayed on my mind a lot until I actually went to see about having it done. It pays to listen!

The cancer I had was a hormone fed cancer and not the aggressive kind. I underwent 12 rounds of chemotherapy and 28 rounds of radiation. I lost all of my hair including my eyebrows and eyelashes.  I have had 5 surgeries in the last 3 years, including reconstruction. My scars have healed very well and you can't really even see them now.

My doctor has given me a clean bill of health and I am cancer free! Praise God!!!

I know that God has allowed me to live longer because he has more work for me to do. I want to be obedient to him. During my time I took off from singing, I spent a lot of time talking to God and listening to him too. He put an even stronger desire on my heart to minister to his people and the lost. Once you have had cancer, you look at things from a different perspective. I told God if he would help me, I would be obedient. The devil tried to make me think I can't do this and I can't do that, and he tries to tell me I'm not good enough, and he holds past mistakes over our heads to try to discourage us from doing God's work.

Whenever satan tries to discourage me, I just think about what God has done and how he has healed and protected me, and I am determined that I am going to be obedient and do his work that he has called me to do.

Luke 4:18-19  “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.
