More About Lisa Laird

I am thankful for the gift of being raised in a Christian home by parents who loved each other and built a home for my brothers and I which was based on principles from the Bible. They took us to church and Sunday School as a regular part of our family life. Through the ministry of Child Evangelism Fellowship, I realized that I needed to surrender my life to Jesus and asked Him to be my Saviour when I was a young child. I was involved in a variety of ministries throughout high school and attended Northwestern College - a Christian Liberal Arts college - in Orange City, IA graduating with a degree in education. I taught school in a mission school in Papua New Guinea for one year before returning to the US and getting married. My husband and I have two sons. We lived in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Zaire, Africa (as missionaries with the Evangelical Free Church) before setting down in Orange City, IA. When our children were young I was thankful to be a stay and home mom, but also enjoyed substitute teaching. I eventually went back to the classroom where I thought I would stay until God opened the door into the world of ventriloquism! I originally used ventriloquism and puppetry in my classroom but started getting requests to do programs so in 2008 I retired from teaching to travel as a children's and family entertainer using ventriloquism and storytelling.  After we moved my mother-in-law into an assisted living facility near us I realized that there was a message for me to share. She had dementia and could no longer remember so much of the past. There were stories attached to many of her belongings and photos that we will never know because she had not written them down or told them to us. I created a character named Dorcas whose life is based on the real stories from my Grandmother and mother as well as a few from my mother-in-law. God showed me that there are indeed so many things that happen in our lives which can be treasures to others - but we need to share them! His word is a treasure to us, and the things He teaches us about His Word through the experiences of our lives are meant to be shared. I try to share His love through the opportunities that I am given to entertain, educate and encourage with my puppets.
