God used the love of a pastor to bring me to a saving knowledge of Christ. I was living with unforgiveness which had brought such a hardness to my heart that it seemed that nothing could penetrate. I was raised in a church where "don'ts" replaced grace and hypocrisy replaced truth. Our lives were surrounded by church activities which often ended with my father's sexual abuse. As a grown woman I vowed that I would NEVER be hurt by a Christian again. I often set Christians up by telling them the gory details of my life in very colorful language. I told them about my alcohol and drug abuse resulting in promiscuity. I loved to watch their faces as I talked in detail about my exploits. I hated Christians!
In 1977 three significant people in my life talked to me about a specific church where the Pastor "might be of help to you." I was very unstable mentally at this time and decided maybe he could help. I went to the church to meet this man with the same plan that I had for all Christians. When I told him my life story in colorful language he responded with tears in his eyes. He said, "Oh, Kay! You need Jesus to heal your broken heart." And with that statement he broke through to a small grain that was left unhardened in my heart. I was saved the next day.
Since that experience, in 1977, I have been ministering to the hurt, lonely, discouraged and needy. God has placed such a softness in my heart that it truly proves the Scripture that says, "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh."Ezekiel 36:26 (NKJV)
