I love telling women about God's amazing grace.
After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2005, I remember thinking, "What am I supposed to do with that?" After all, MS comes with a very uncertain prognosis.
Being a problem solver, I planned for the worst scenarios. I considered handicap-friendly changes in our home, created a plan for easier personal care, resigned from my career, and cleared my schedule. Then I sat and waited.
My physical condition improved. Hmm. I hadn't planned for that. Was this temporary? Would I ever work again? Was there a significant setback in my future? If so, what would it look like? Focusing on the uncertainties turned me into an emotional mess.
After a long and bitter pity party, I finally confronted the Great Physician.
"Dear God. Why are you allowing this to happen? I can't fix this."
His reply came fast and resonated deep in my being.
"My child. Every breath you take, every step you make comes from Me and is for me.
"Well, then God, you deal with it. I'm moving on."
He didn't have a problem with that. He reminded me that he is Sovereign God, Creator, Counselor, and King.
Me? I am his child.
Admittedly, surrendering my preconceived idea of what life was supposed to look like was difficult. Burying the notion that I had control of anything went against every grain in my take-charge personality. I guess that's why Paul's conversation with God stays at the forefront of my mind. Here's what God's response was when he asked the Almighty to remove a thorn in his life.
"Each time he said, 'My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.' t So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses so that the power of Christ can work through me. That's why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong." II Corinthians 12:9-10 (NLT)
During my twenty-eight years serving in women's ministry, I've discovered how vulnerable women often feel as Christ-followers. I want them to experience the freedom of knowing that God's plans for their life are accomplished through his strength. He only expects their willingness to obey.
As a life coach, my greatest joy is when a woman comes to that understanding and gains confidence that they can indeed do all things through Christ.
My novel, Running from Asperity, tells the story of such a woman.
I designed my Grace Warrior devotionals and journals to be short and straightforward, aiding women as they learn to converse with God and trust him.
I occasionally blog on my website at www.TheGraceWarrior.com and am available for seminars, conferences, retreats, and banquets and would love to assist customizing a message for your next event. As a professional author, speaker, and life coach, but mostly as a grace warrior, my message is the same – God's grace is all you need.
