Marilyn Nutter loves finding treasures in unexpected places: gratitude in mulch, conversations with grandchildren, and secrets in an old trunk. Her treasured marriage of forty-two years began on a Caribbean island, but suddenly ended in 2011, when visiting family two days before Christmas and 2,000 miles from home, her husband suffered a fatal heart attack. Searching for hope in loss, Lamentations 3:22-23 has been a brilliant treasure in her new season.
She is a former speech-language pathologist and served as a faculty member in Christian Higher Education for twenty-two years. In addition to preparing students academically, she had the privilege of beginning her classes with devotions.
In 2004, God called her from her profession to write devotions and inspirational non-fiction. She is the author of devotional books and contributor to online sites, print, and compilations. She has written for Power for Living, Devotable, CBN, Chicken Soup for the Soul, Christian Living in the Mature Years, Focus on the Family, Reach Out Columbia and Hope-Full Living. Marilyn serves as a facilitator for grief support for spouses and on the women’s ministry team at her church. Her award-winning book Destination Hope: A Travel Companion When Life Falls Apart coauthored with April White, (Ambassador International Publication) was released in September 2021.She and April White speak for women's groups and retreats-giving their testimonies and sharing hope in loss when we are in a new life season. The love encouraging women to see hope when friendships change, that one size doesn't fit all in loss, and they are positioned for purpose. Her book, Hope for Widows: Reflections on Mourning, Living, and Change will be released in 2004 by Our Daily Bread Publisher.
A resident of South Carolina, Marilyn’s most extraordinary treasures of gratitude are found in her family, which includes eight grandchildren, and the hope and promises in scripture. When her family, scattered in three states, have an opportunity to go a beach, she loves splashing in the waves with her grands. When they meet and gather around her table, her cup runs over as they celebrate their “unbirthdays”.
