Susan Whitehead has learned to embrace opportunities to live out her deep trust in God through walking by faith, not by sight. In 2011, she and her husband saw God open a door for their family to relocate from Florida to Costa Rica. In three short months, they sold nearly everything (except scrapbooks and baby blankets) and packed up their (then) five children for an adventure of a lifetime! Her radical approach to parenting global-minded and Christ-centered children is always an adventure!
Susan's 3 biggest parenting goals are to teach her children to love God, to love ALL people in order to share the Gospel through genuine relationships and to love learning. God's call for her to homeschool gives her daily opportunities to realize these goals.
Through living abroad in Latin America and the Middle East, plus a 3-month road trip in Europe, she has seen her children develop a love of other cultures and people. Traveling as a large family isn't without challenges! God has used Susan's strong entrepreneurial spirit, with a supportive husband, to create multiple streams of income. The money generated has helped sustain their family financially in the USA and overseas. Together with her husband, Michael, Susan has built up and sold two Internet-focused businesses.
Susan grew up in an irreligious home and came to know Christ through a Bible study after her freshman year in college. She has been seeking His Truth ever since. God has gifted her with 4 daughters and then 2 sons whose ages range from 20 years old down to a precocious 4-year-old. A big part of her early parenting years was her involvement as a leader in M.O.P.S International. She served in Hospitality, as a Discussion Group Leader and Coordinator before taking on a bigger role coaching 20+ groups in eastern North Carolina. She jokes that she's been M.O.P.S eligible since 1998!
