Taking God at His Word

In Acts 27:17ff, we read of an incident in the life of Paul in which his circumstances are screaming, “No hope.” Yet his hope is not robbed along with that of the men he travels with. His hope is secure because it rests on the Word of God, which is unable to be false. He has been in a storm for two weeks. There is no sign of sun or stars. What a storm this must have been! But Paul, who has been informed by an angel that he will stand before Caesar, believes God. This is the essence of true faith, and we will find it an essential ingredient if our prayers are to be birthed in the miraculous: We must trust God’s Word, in the midst of the storm, that God’s promises will turn out exactly as we have been told. “Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” Numbers 23:19 “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17
