Jesus the Master Discipler

Do you know how many times the words Christian and Disciple are used in the bible?

Disciple is used in the New King James translation 252 times and 296 times in the NIV translation.   Over 250 times, in both translations the word was used.  I found this interesting because how often do you hear someone say, “I am a disciple of Christ”?  As with most believers I have always called myself a Christian.  Disciple was not something I thought I could describe myself as. That title would describe my pastor but not me.  I was just a stay at home mom.  Yes, I know that is a wrong train of thought and if I was a betting women, I would bet that I am not the only one who thinks they might be unqualified to call themselves a disciple.  Christian seems to be a more comfortable title.  Now take a guess, how many times is the word Christian is used in the bible?  You might be surprised to know that the word we call ourselves most often is only found 3 times in the KJV and 7 in the NIV.  Seems to me there is much more of an emphasis on us being Disciples of Christ than on just being Christians.  If we are really going to walk with Christ we cannot ignore what he calls us all to do. We are all called to be fisher’s of men, disciples.

In this talk I look to Jesus as the guide to becoming a disciple.  He is after all the "Master Discipler"
