Hearers or Doers?

Jesus taught His disciples to DO (take action) concrete things through his commands. Even from the beginning the most important ingredient He used and expected from His followers was obedience. "Zacchaeus, come down, hurry up" was a command. It was an order not merely a speech. ''Matthew, follow me"; "Go to a certain city; greet people in such and such a way; preach this; don't charge any money for healing."; "Don't go to the gentile’s yet."; "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." etc. They were all commandments that had to be obeyed, not motiovational speeches that they had to hear.

In the same manner, we have clear action steps spelled out for us on how to deal with just about everything life throws at us. The question is...are we going to settle for being "Hearers" of the Word or are we committed to becoming "Doers" of the Word?

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." James 1:22
