Hearers or Doers?

Jesus taught His disciples to take action! Not a motivational speaker, Jesus gave commands, not "good ideas." Tap into the power of becoming a doer instead just a hearer.

---

DO means taking action and Jesus provides concrete directions through scripture. Even from the beginning, the most important ingredient He used and expected from His followers was obedience.

Jesus gave commands, not simply requests:

  • Zacchaeus come down! Hurry up!
  • Matthew, follow me!
  • Go to a certain city; greet people in such and such a way.
  • Preach and don't charge any money for healing.
  • Don't go to the Gentiles yet.
  • Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

These and more commandments were meant to be obeyed. They were not motivational speeches, rather calls to action.

In the same manner, we have clear steps spelled out for us on how to deal with just about everything life throws at us. The question is, are we going to settle for being hearers of the Word, or are we going to become committed to being doers?

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1:22
