Come to the Mountain: Be Refreshed, Comforted & Encouraged

Even the Prophets suffered from loneliness, exhaustion, fear, and depression. The story of Elijah shows us that God is intimately aware of our human emotions and is never late to show up with His loving provisions.

The Old Testament is filled with incredible stories of brave prophets and there is much to glean from each one of them.  As a matter of fact, take your pick of a whopping seventeen who each have a treasured book titled by their own name. But there's one man that stands out like a sparkling gem tucked in the pages of Israel's unparalleled history. We are introduced to him in 1 Kings chapter 17.  He suddenly appears on the scene and is simply introduced in this way, "Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tisbe in Gilead, said to Ahab (the milk-toast king of Israel who never consulted the Lord about anything!) "As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word." Now, this would hurt Elijah too, but he made the proclamation any way.  He was willing to do whatever the Lord told him to do.  And lest we forget that Elijah was just a man, the process was not always easy.  He met many reasons to be afraid, exhausted, frustrated, depressed and yet we get a birds-eye view of the gentle love of the Lord as He meets Elijah just where he is; even under a lone tree out in the wilderness or up on a mountain where the glory of God shows off just for him.

COME

TO THE

MOUNTAIN

Life had its way

Of destroying a day

For a man named Elijah

A prophet of God.

Defeated, weary, depressed

Tired and dreary….

He ran.

Ran to the wilderness

No strength to go on.

And out in the desert

He cried to Jehovah,

“I’ve lost every battle!

Just take me home,

I’m all alone!”

And there in his

Deep need,

The Savior renewed him,

And gave him the power

To go on.

“And he arose and ate and

drank, and went in the

strength of that food for

forty days and forty nights to

Horeb,

The mount of God.

1 Kings 19:8

Come to the

Mountain!

Come to

I AM

I make the

Fire,

Wind and rain.

You think I’ve

Lost you…

And I can’t be

Found.

But it’s deep

In your heart

I

Remain.

“Be strong and courageous.

Do not fear or be in dread

Of them, for it is the Lord

Your God who goes with you.

He will not leave you

Or forsake you.”

Deuteronomy 31:6
