Arlecia “Dr. Lecia” Simmons is a native of Charleston, S.C., who has been called to help people lead abundant and faithful lives. As a "Healing Griot," she merges her love of Gullah Geechee culture, preaching, storytelling, and comedy into presentations and digital content.
In addition to being a preacher, educator, and workshop facilitator, she has authored three books: “Diggin’ For Treasure: Jewels of Hope When Pressure and Time” Collide,” Diggin’ For Intimacy: Sex, Sensuality, and Loving God,” and “Diggin’ For Refuge: Miles of Grace and Transition.” The latter two are available for purchase on Amazon.
Her experience as a college educator, journalist, and minister informs and strengthens her work as the Eastern Regional Associate Director with Partners in Health and Wholeness, an initiative of the North Carolina Council of Churches.
Simmons has also written a one-woman stage show, The One, that chronicles the impact of HIV/AIDS and its impact on African-American women. She holds degrees from Winthrop University, the University of South Carolina, the University of Iowa, and Duke University.
